Thank you for visiting us online at the Abilities Church (AC). AC is the first fully inclusive church for the whole community that is giving people with disabilities an equal voice and opportunity to worship and minister within the church. The Bible teaches us that ministering to people with disabilities should be a top priority and that they are favored by God to worship and minister within the church.
The Abilities Church is not a "disabled" ministry but an "Inclusion" ministry for the whole community. Our goal is to maintain an equal congregational balance between people with and without visible disabilities. Our purpose is to motivate and inspire the whole community to personally practice inclusion as
a part of everyday living. We do not believe that people with disabilities should be confined within segregated services, programs or classes. Every church must fight the natural tendencies of segregation. AC is a groundbreaking, unique
and inspirational ministry that is challenging social segregation within the church and community.
The church can learn and grow much more from people living with disabilities than from people without disabilities. They have the power through their human limitations to inspire and transform us into authentic, courageous and caring people. They help us see and remove our human biases, prejudices, self deceptions or denial, hypocrisies, discriminations, pretenses, complacencies and conditionings. Who really has the disability? The so-called normal person or the so-called disabled person?
The pure gospel of our Lord Jesus is manifested through the weak and simple and not the strong, smart or sophisticated. Jesus said that we must receive him as little children. People with intellectual disabilities are child-like, helping us see the face of God through their humility, sincerity and purity. We need people with disabilities to be at the forefront of the church because they teach us about God, ourselves and about having an transparent faith. The Scriptures teaches that the weak, feeble or humble among us are the greatest in God's Kingdom. (Matthew 19:14,30; Luke 7:28; 1 Corinthians 1:27; 2 Corinthians 12:10; James 4:6 and1 Peter 5:5).

Our goal is to maintain a 50% congregational balance of people with & without visible disabilities

Introduction
Abilities Church
The Church for "Real" People
Everyone is affected by disabilities
The word disability is defined as a weakness, limitation, challenge or restriction. This definition discribes every human being. According to Health Canada and Statistics Canada everyone will possess a form of a disability within their life time. Disabilities effects all of us. There are physical, intellectual, psychological, emotional, social and environmental disabilities. We are all effected by some form of a disabilities. There are what they call, "Invisible disabilities" which are easily hidden from diagnoses, including mood or personality disorders, attention deficit disorder, hyper-active disorders, anxiety/stress disorders, depression, obsessive compulsiveness, anger management, addictions, low self-esteem, anti-social behaviors, chronic illness and aging disabilities. The World Health Organization estimates that there are as many as 600 million persons with disabilities worldwide. 1 in 10 Canadians has a learning disability or 3 million.
A place where everyone is included and no one is excluded!
Are you disappointed or
disillusioned with Church?
People with disabilities have an inspirational message to share that will strengthen
church attendance, Christian growth, discipleship, evangelism and missions
The department of Justice Canada has produced a booklet entitled, "Abuse is wrong in any language". On page 3 under, "other forms of abuse are not hard crimes, but they are still abuse", it gives some examples such as, "humiliating, insulting you, ignoring you or calling you names and telling you what you can do, where you can go, who your friends can be". The article asked the question, "What is abuse"? and answers it by stating, "you have been abused when another person hurts you or treats you badly". In conclusion the article finishes by asking two more questions, "Does the abuser often find fault with you or tell you, you are worthless"? And does the abuser make you feel intimidated or inferior by what he says"? One of the characteristics of abuse is to "Ignore" people. Many people today, especially those living with disabilities feel that the church has ignored, neglected & overlooked them.
Challenging the subtle human tendencies of "Abuse" within the Church
Many people have lost their faith and trust in the church because of the politics and games many churches play. It is a fact that there is no such thing as a perfect church but this does not give us an excuse to abuse, offend or mistreat people. The Bible warns us in first Corinthians 9:18 "not to abuse the power of the gospel". 1 Corinthians 10:32 says that "We are not to offend anyone, neither the Jews, nor the Gentiles, or the church of God" and 2 Corinthians 6:3 commands us, "Giving no offence in anything, that the ministry be not blamed". We are to have a "conscience void of offences towards all men". The Church has developed a negative reputation for discriminating against people through their human restrictions and standards. Discriminations, offenses and abuse have no place in the church. TAC is rebuilding confidence in a healthy and inclusive church.
Rebuilding Confidence in the Church!

captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, set at liberty them that are bruised".

An Inclusion Ministry
Abilities is a "Jesus kind of ministry" because we are giving people who have been marginalized by society an equal place of importance within the church. When was the last time you saw someone with a disability at the forefront of Christian worship and ministry? The Church today has favoured the physically and intellectually strong above the weak. Jesus taught us that the least among us would be the greatest in His kingdom!
