6. Questions: What kind of disabilities are represented at The Abilities Church. Answer: All disabilities. We believe that every human being has either visible or invisible disabilities. There are physical, intellectual/development, learning/cognitive, psychological/mental, chronic, genetic, emotional, social, spiritual and aging disabilities.
7. Question: How do churches practice segregation? Answer: We believe all churches engage in segregation at some level. We need to consciously challenge segregation within the church on a regular basis. Churches segregate and discriminate on the bases of denominational distinctive's, theology, worship style, education, age, race, social status, appearance, abilities etc.
8. Question: Your tag line reads "The church for real people". Are you suggesting that other churches are not real and that you are? Answer: Yes and No! We believe that no human being is completely real all the time. Only God is 100% real all the time. All people and churches are a product of their social and religious conditioning therefore we are not always real. There are 3 reasons why we call ourselves "The church for real people":
1. Many people hide behind false pretenses
2. Many Christians wear masks of performance
3. Many Churches are stereotypical and plastic
People with disabilities, especially intellectually disabilities teach us about being real and authentic because many of them have a faith and thinking that is childlike. They are sincere, simple, spontaneous, sensitive, and spiritual because they have not been conditioned by the social and religious conditionings of our society.
