Every church has human elements of segregation which are not healthy and that need to be challenged on a regular basis. A church can be segregated denominationally, theologically, culturally and socially. More subtle forms of segregation include worship styles, music preferences, preaching or teaching approaches, church programs, dress standards and philosophical emphasis.
The Bible teaches that the key to a healthy and spiritual faith is moderation and diversity. We are commanded "to make our moderation known to all men and to become all things to all people".
The most deceptive and dangerous form of segregation is to segregate our churches with people of the same or identical abilities, strengths or gifts. The church today is segregated with people who do not have disabilities. The so- called "normal, whole, attractive, educated, strong, smart and talented or gifted" rule the church today. The Bible teaches the

opposite of where the church has put the emphasis today. The Bible says that "God does not call many wise, mighty or noble men but rather uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise and the weak things to confound the things that are mighty" 1 Corinthians 1:26, 27.
Many churches have a handful of people with disabilities who sit behind the pews and are not given the same opportunities to worship, participate or minister within the church. They are in the minority and they do not have an equal voice or place of importance within the church. Their representation is not equal within the whole church.
We at The Abilities Church are constantly fighting against segregation. Our goal is to have a 50% mixture of people with and without disabilities. We believe that this is a healthy and spiritual balance that the Lord will bless and honor. Segregation is a natural human tendency that every church has to fight against on a ongoing basis.
